Our 3 favourite lower calorie festive dessert recipes

The silly season has well and truly arrived!

This is a time of year where it is notoriously difficult to stay on track – purely because of all of the delicious festive foods! So we thought we’d make things easier for you by giving you 3 of our favourite lower calorie festive dessert recipes! We have taken some of our favourite Christmas desserts and made them a little more calorie/macro-friendly so that they are easier to fit in your calorie budgets over the festive period!

These recipes are super easy to make, easy to track in your food tracking app and most importantly – super delicious!

Mini Strawberry Trifles

Serves: 4
Nutrition info (per serve): 243 calories – 7.7g protein,

Ingredients

  • 240g strawberries, fresh
  • 500g diet jelly, strawberry
  • 240g dustard, low fat
  • 80g whipped cream, light
  • 140g sponge finger biscuits (Savoiardi)

Method

  1. Make diet jelly according to packet directions, allow to set. 
  2. Add half a sponge finger biscuit into each base of 4 serving glasses. Top each with 30g of custard, 30g of sliced strawberries and 62.5g of jelly. 
  3. Repeat layers one more time. 
  4. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. 
  5. Top each glass with 20g of whipped cream and serve immediately. 
  6. Enjoy!

Low Carb Gingerbread Cookies

Serves: 6
Nutrition info: 148 calories – 9.1g protein, 5.4g carbs, 11.1g fat

Ingredients

  • 125g natural almond butter
  • 30g protein powder (whey or plant-based) – vanilla flavour
  • 45ml maple syrup (sugar-free)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp ginger, ground
  • 0.25 tsp cinnamon, ground
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg, ground

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celcius. 
  2. Add all ingredients to a bowl and combine well. 
  3. Roll mixture into 6 even balls and place on a lined baking tray. Flatten slightly with your fingers or the back of a spoon. 
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes. 
  5. Allow to cool and enjoy!

Mini Berry Meringues

Serves: 4
Nutrition info (per serve – 2 nests): 150 calories – 2g protein, 27.7g carbs, 3.6g fat

Ingredients

  • 8 x meringue nests, store bought
  • 80g whipped cream, light
  • 200g strawberries, fresh
  • 80g blueberries, fresh
  • Fresh mint (optional)

Method

  • Place 2 mini meringue nests onto 4 serving plates.
  • Top each meringue nest with 10g whipped cream and decorate with approx. 35g berries each. Garnish with mint (optional).
  • Serve immediately. Enjoy!
